The name Yeyen Tumena is a guarantee of a strong defense. His ability to read the play and to cut opponents' passes are his main weapons for this Primavera alumnus. It's not surprising that after leaving PSM Makassar, he right away got contracted at another club that is not less elite, Persikota Tangerang.

Before Indonesian League (LI) VI took off, he was hit by an injury that forced him to rest for two years. Even though he had to use his own money to pay for the medications after the right knee injury that hit him at 1996 Asian Cup, yeyen never gave up. Six months before he was completely healed, he was still not allowed on the pitch. His days were filled with fithness training and physiotheraphy. But the supoort from his family was an enormous help for him to recover. "A lot of people were pessimistic to see me playing again. Even my own parents asked me whether I wanted to continue and to stop and get another job. When I said I wanted to stick to football, they still supported me," said Yeyen.

After completely healed, Yeyen was trusted to guard PSM's defense line as well as the team's captain. Towards the second round of LI VI, however, another problem came up, that was he rarely played as a starter anymore. There was a rumour flying that there were differing opinions between him and the coach, Syamsuddin Umar.

Because he felt that he wouldn't improve if the condition stayed that way, Yeyen started thinking of moving clubs. Although he had to leave his job at Puskud Makassar, he finally decided to leave PSM on good terms. "I still love football and still believe that I can improve and compete. You know how it feels for players who just sit on the bench the whole time. If I'm never played, then my chances of making it to the national team are very small," he said.

When his wish to leave PSM was granted, he was being pulled here and there by LI VII contestants. He finally decided to join Persikota tangerang, though clubs such as Pelita, Persijatim, PSPS, and Persikabo were vying for this youngest of three siblings. It's not just the material stuff that made him choose to play for the Bayi Ajaib (the Magical Baby -- persikota's nickname). "Persikota's style of play suits me and Bang Sutan (Persikota's head coach) wants to help me to get selected in the national squad again," he gave the reason.

It doesn't seem wrong if a place in the national squad is his aim. Even more if one can see his mental strength in facing all the problems all this time. "If he can recover to his best performance, then he will pass any of the defender in the national team right now," said Sutan Harhara, the architect of persikota Tangerang.
