The name Rahel Tuasalamony may not yet well-known in the world of Indonesian football. One can understand that, since playing in the upcoming Indonesian League (LI) VII is his first time ever. Even then, he doesn't feel pressurized on that issue. With a big team from the metropolis city of Surabaya, Persebaya, he determines to take the team to advance to Senayan.

What makes him so sure? His experience in playing for the junior national team, where he had impressive performances and easily adapted with his seniors. Three times he defended Indonesia at international levels, in the national students' team and in the U19 national team.

Even his small stature is not a big deal for him.

"Even though he's rather small, he has many other talents. He knows how to read the play well, and he has good individual skills and high pace," said Rudy William Keltjes, Persebaya's head coach.

With all those abilities, Rahel is now one of the main pillars in the Persebaya team. And he delivers. He made six goals in all Persebaya's friendlies during the off-season.

"My job is to get into the enemy's defense if the main strikers are being man-marked. With the squad that Persebaya has right now, I'm convinced that we will be able to advance to Senayan," said Rahel.

"Rahel is the kind of player who only gets happy when told to train hard. This attitude really helps him in matches so that he can show all his potentials. He is a good role model for all junior players," said Rudy, who has been coaching Rahel ever since the U19 national team.

Rahel confesses that he is motivated by the players from Maluku who have achieved so much in national football. Such players are Imran Nahumarury, Chairil Anwar, and Deddy Umarella, who live their lives from playing football.

"When they come back to Ambon (Maluku's capital city), they often ask people from the villages, including me, to play. From there, I was determined to follow their paths in professing football," explained Rahel.

In the beginning of his career, Rahel's dream of becoming a professional football player was resisted by his own older brother. There had been occasions where the two of them argued on the matter, where his brother wanted Rahel to be more serious in studying. Things changed, however.

Rahel said, "My brother was starting to be convinced of my dream after hearing from people that I have talents in football. Since then, he's never absent from any of my matches."

After joining Persebaya, Rahel still has some other ambitions. The closest one is getting selected in U23 national team for SEA Games in Malaysia later this year.

Another obsession is that he wants to show his duty to his parents. "From playing football professionally, I want to build my parents a house in Tulehu, my home village," said Rahel.
