We’ll be ready, say Makassar Indonesia’s PSM Makassar say the venue for the eastern quarter-finals of this year’s Asian Club Championship will be ready in time for the tournament’s kick-off at the end of March. Former Asian champions Jubilo Iwata of Japan, Suwon Bluewings from Korea and China’s Shandong Luneng will travel to the South Sulaweisi city for the round-robin group stage of the competition from March 21 to 25. The top two teams qualify for the semi-finals, along with the two best sides from the west of the continent. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) had requested the club improve the facilities to bring the Mattoangin Stadium up to international standards. The chairman of the organising committee said he was hopeful the stadium would be ready in time. "We are optimistic that we will complete the renovations as requested by the Asian Football Confederation before the event, which runs from March 21 through March 25," said Ilham Arief Siradjuddin. "During the first phase, the Makassar local authority has allocated Rp 2.5 billion for the renovations." Those renovations have included constructing a media centre, fixing the changing rooms while they are in the process of upgrading the playing surface and importing a new lighting system from China. Lighting had been a primary concern for the confederation, with the games due to be broadcast live by Star TV. "With the lighting capacity, photographers will be able to take pictures without flashbulbs. Star TV will have no light problems when filming here," Ilham said. from: AFC Website
