Persebaya Invited to Brunei Darussalam

"Persebaya has been invited to play in Brunei Darussalam. Brunei official representatives came earlier today, Monday (2/26), and have asked Persebaya to play against their national team," said H. Karwoto Sumoprawiro, one of the honored members of Persebaya Surabaya's Board of Advisors.

Karwoto announced the invitation in front of reporters at the Wisma Eri Irianto in Surabaya, capital city of East Java. Wisma Eri Irianto is a football compound belongs to Persebaya. It's named after Eri Irianto, Persebaya's star player who passed away last year in the middle of Season VI of Indonesian League.

Even though the date for the match has not been set yet, Persebaya has agreed to come and play the neighboring country's national team.

Karwoto said, "We've said yes to the invitation. It will most likely be played after the first half of this season, which is in March."

"All the accommodations for Persebaya will be taken care by them," added Karwoto.

Karwoto also explained that the reason Persebaya is invited to Brunei because Persebaya football club is pretty well-known there. In addition to that, there are a lot of East Javanese people residing in Brunei.

Furthermore, Karwoto said that although Brunei Darussalam is paying all the costs, not all of the players will go with the team. Only the ones that are needed will get the chance and the rest will stay in Surabaya. Karwoto also said that the players' passports are being processed at the moment and they should be ready soon.
